Robert T. "Bob" Buck

BUCK---Robert T. “Bob,” 93, Richland, passed away on October 28, 2022. Born January 20, 1929, in Johnstown, son of Thomas H. and Marie (Sanker) Buck. Preceded in death by his parents and sister, Margaret “Peggy” Ray. Survived by wife of 71 years, Jeanne D. (Cousins) Buck; and children, Richard A. (Diane L. Safko) Buck, Johnstown; Robert T. (Angela Ott) Buck, Johnstown; David B. (Gayle Clark) Buck, Johnstown; grandson, David R. Buck, Pittsburgh. Bob was a 1946 graduate of Ferndale High School and a 1950 graduate of Pennsylvania Military College. He worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad during summers. Bob was the owner of Buck’s Hobby Shop for many years. The store was started in 1927 by Bob’s father as a wallpaper and paint store. During Bob’s ownership of the store, he changed the direction of what they sold to include craft and hobby supplies, and toys including Lego and Matchbox cars. The store was the first in the area to carry those two brands. The business evolved into a wholesale distributorship of craft supplies to the Eastern United States. He and Jeanne and their sons all worked in the family business. Bob was a proud member of the Good Sam Club and the Flood City Campers. He was a past president of the Greater Johnstown Jaycees from 1960-1961 and served as a district director for the Pennsylvania Jaycees. He was the Vice-President of the Ferndale Historical Society. He and Jeanne enjoyed camping, scuba diving, cross country skiing, biking, hiking and more. He was an avid storyteller and he always started out with “when I was young…..” He and Jeanne traveled extensively and enjoyed visiting each of the 50 states and traveling internationally. At Bob’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private entombment will be held at Grandview Mausoleum. The family is being served by Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland. Online condolences may be posted at www.wharrisfuneralhome.com.

I met Bob through my Uncles Herb & Wilbert Boerstler. I've heard many fond stories from Uncle Herb before my he had passed. Then after my Uncle WIlb passed, I heard new stories from Bob. They had a lot of fun in Ferndale growing up! He missed my Uncle Herb very much, and now he will get to see him again. God doesn't make them like that anymore! ♥ Peace and prayers being sent in this time of sadness.
