Hayes – Philip J. “Jim,” 88, of Geistown, went to be with the Lord on September 14, 2026 at the residence of his granddaughter. Born April 9, 1938 in Johnstown, son of Robert H. and Thelma (Wirick) Hayes. Preceded in death by parents; wife and best friend of 59 years, Denise L. (Weaver) Hayes; brother, Robert “Bob” Hayes; sister-in-law, Dennice, and nephew, Bobby Hayes. Survived by his loving granddaughter, Emily R. and husband, Jeff Held Jr., Johnstown; great-grandson, Jeffrey Held III; children, Susan, wife of Jeff Penrod, Richland Township. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Jim was a 1956 graduate of Johnstown High School. Jim was the retired Senior Vice-President of Moxham Bank and head of the Trust Department. Jim was a U.S. Army Veteran. Jim was a life-long and dedicated member of Scalp Level Covenant Church of the Brethren, where he served as Deacon. Jim volunteered at New Day, Inc. and served on the board for over 40 years as Treasurer. Jim was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. Jim will affectionately be remembered as “Pappy.” Friends will be received from 3-7 p.m. Friday, September 18, 2026, with a Deacon service to follow at Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland. An additional visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at Scalp Level Covenant Church of the Brethren, with the Pastor Mark Murchie and Pastor Chris Valente, officiating. Entombment, Richland Cemetery Mausoleum, with Military Rites conducted by Menoher Post #155, VFW Ritual Team. Family suggests donations to Scalp Level Covenant Church of the Brethren, or New Day, Inc. in memory of Jim. The family would like to thank 365 Hospice and Mary Ann Ramires who gave Pappy excellent care. Online condolences may be posted to www.wharrisfuneralhome.com.
