JANAK---Jacquelyn A. "Jackie," 89, Johnstown, went to be with the Lord on October 20, 2026, at Arbutus Park Manor. Born on October 16, 1937, in Johnstown, daughter of George and Ethel (Bender) Allen. Preceded in death by her parents; husband, James J. Janak; mother-in-law, Agnes Smith and “her sissy” Elizabeth Allen; also preceded in death by her friend, Charles Strashensky. She is survived by her loving family, Michael Janak, (Jeannine), Allison Janak and Megan Janak, Cynthia Janak, Lauren Hova (Elysado), Emma Bender, Sawyer Bender and Timothy J. Rose; James Janak (Kristen), Nickolaus Janak, Katharina Janak, Amelia Lowery (Dakota), Adelaide Lowery, Laurel Pruitt and David Pruitt; brother, William Allen and her nieces and nephews. Jackie was a 1956 graduate of Richland High School and a 1958 graduate of Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, Johnstown. Jackie retired from Mercy Hospital’s OB Department after 43 years of service as a Registered Nurse. She delivered many newborns on her 11-7 shift when the doctor on call couldn’t make it to the hospital in time. Jackie loved to organize and host many events. Starting in the 1960’s and 1970’s with poolside summer picnics in the family backyard. The next couple decades she was busy planning Mercy Hospital’s OB department holiday parties. Jackie also wrote many comedic skits for the nurses to present. The 1990’s brought heartache when her husband passed away ending their 38-year marriage. She turned that heartache into a mission by volunteering with many organizations to share her passion for caring about her neighbors and community. The rest of Jackie’s social calendar was filled with lunches with dear friends and shopping because “You work hard and deserve it.” As her grandchildren got older, she would attend as many school and sporting events as she could to cheer on their successes. Jackie was blessed to be able to spend many years with her great-grandchildren as well. Her grandchildren and great- grandchildren filled her heart with joy. Whether an in person visit, holiday gathering or a phone call, her face lit up. The family would like to thank all of the caring staff at Arbutus Park Manor especially the loving staff on Personal Care West who welcomed her into their care with respect, compassion and laughter. Also 365 Hospice for their loving guidance. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until time of Funeral Service at 11 a.m., Monday, October 26, 2026 at Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, with Rev. Nancy Hoover officiating. Entombment, Richland Cemetery Mausoleum. Online condolences may be posted at www.wharrisfuneralhome.com.
