VARGO—Michael A. Sr., 71, East Conemaugh, went to the be with the Lord on April 26, 2025 at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. Born March 22, 1954 in Johnstown, son of William and Mary (Lukasiewicz) Vargo. Preceded in death by parents and mother-in-law and father-in-law, John and Margaret Ruth Salkeld; brothers-in-law, Jack and wife Helena; Dennis Salkeld; and niece, Dawn and good buddy, Lew James. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Sandra “Sandy” (Salkeld); daughter, Tina Marie Anthony; son, Michael A. Jr.; granddaughters, Taelur Yost and husband, Nick; and Jordyn Anthony; great-granddaughter, Eddie Mae Sage. Brother of Bill “Buttons” Vargo and wife, Betsey. Also survived by cousins, Bobbi Peschock and Art Lawson, and nephew, Jonathan Salkeld, several other nieces, nephews and many good friends. Mike was a 1972 graduate of Conemaugh Valley High School. He retired from James Excavating and he was employed by East Taylor Township. Mike was a lifetime member of Conemaugh Volunteer Fire Co. and the Conemaugh PNA. He loved making Sunday dinners for his family and feeding and watching “his” birds. The family would like to thank Ricky Price for everything he did for Mike. At Mike’s request, there will be no public viewing. There will be a celebration of Mike’s life at a later date. The family is being served by Baker Funeral Chapel and Cremation Services, 229-231 First St., Conemaugh. Cremation by Laurel Highlands Crematory at Harris Funeral Home.
