Dorothy A. Gerber

GERBER----Dorothy A., 97, Johnstown, passed away peacefully at her home and went to be with the Lord on March 20, 2026. Born on April 19, 1928, in Johnstown, daughter of Frances (Horton) Hasenstab. Preceded in death by mother, husband, James R Gerber, brothers, William and Paul. She is survived by daughters, Beverly (Ken) Hogue, Donna (Jerry) Pannone, Kathy (Kurt) Freidhoff and son, James (Erin) Gerber II. There are 13 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Dorothy graduated from Catholic High and went on to Mercy School of Nursing. After graduation, she began her career at Mercy Hospital before spending the majority of her nursing career at Memorial Medical Center in the pediatric department. After retiring from nursing, she and her husband formed Gerber ChairMates Corporation which continued for over 20 years. Dorothy loved spending time with her family. She had also enjoyed traveling with her husband and they visited 48 of the 50 states and Canada. Her many hobbies included reading, crocheting, jigsaw puzzles, playing cards and water walking at the YMCA. Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m Wednesday, March 25, 2026 at Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, where vigil service will be held. There will also be a service conducted by the Nurses Honor Guard of Cambria County. Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 26, 2026, at St. John Gaulbert Cathedral, 117 Clinton Street, Johnstown, with Very Rev. Matthew Baum. Committal will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. The family would like to thank Windber Hospice for their dedicated and compassionate care given to Dorothy and her family.
