SMITH---Matthew J., 42, Geistown, passed away unexpectedly in an accident on March 21, 2026 in Johnstown. Born August 15, 1983 in Johnstown, son of Rodney J. and Barbara A. (Urban) Smith. Preceded in death grandparents, Robert and Josephine Urban and James and Alice Lorraine Smith-Fleet. Survived by wife of 16 years, Kayla M. (Saccol), children, Jacob M., Kylie M. and Madison R. Smith all at home; siblings, Jessica M. Locher, Johnstown; R.J. Smith and Shelsea Kauffman, Greencastle; nieces and nephews, Sara Kowalewski, Evin Kowalewski, Jessica Locher, Charles Locher, Adalynne Locher, Wyatt Locher and David Locher, Peyton Smith, Chase Miller and Brielle Smith; sister-in-law, Haley Natta and husband, Adam, Portage; nieces, Charlotte and Helena Natta; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Don and Roxann Saccol, Salix. Matt was a 2002 graduate of Greater Johnstown Career and Technology Center. He was employed as a carpenter at both Millwork Solutions and Hoff Enterprises and then in 2021 he founded M.R. Handyman/Remodeling with his brother, R.J. Matt enjoyed camping with his family, fishing and hunting. Baseball, softball and football were a very important part of family life. Matt coached his children and others at V.E. Erickson for many years. He will be remembered as a very hard worker and he was well-liked for his personality and his sense of humor. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends. The family will receive friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 26, 2026 at Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland and again from 10 a.m. until time of Funeral Service at 11 a.m. Friday, March 27, 2026 at Elton Zion Church, 1089 Mt.
