Kovalchik - Pauline, B., “Bubba” “Cookie,” 91, East Conemaugh, passed away December 31, 2023 at Arbutus Park Manor. Born June 30, 1932, in Johnstown, PA. Daughter of John and Anna (Winkler) Zajdel. Preceded in death by parents, husbands, Andy S. Szwast, and Charles W. Kovalchik, son, Andrew J. Szwast; brothers, Ted, Joe, and Frank Zajdel, and sister, Stella Zadarla.

 

Survived by loving children Mary Ann (Szwast) Uzelac, Johnstown, PA; Paulette Szwast, Johnstown, PA.; Andrea (Szwast) Hale, (Vincent), Rowlett, TX; Vincent Kovalchik, (Lisa), Johnstown, PA; Victor Kovalchik, (Darlene), Johnstown, PA., Kathy (Kreps) Szwast, (daughter-in-law), Odessa, FL. Survived by 14 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Pauline was a Member of Church of Transfiguration, Conemaugh; President of the Conemaugh Volunteer Fire Company, Ladies Auxiliary and served over 29 years as a Voting Election Board officer in East Conemaugh. Pauline was employed as a cook at the Conemaugh Valley Elementary School. She was head cook at the Assumption BVM church hall for many years. She prepared delicious Ethnic foods for church events and Fish for Fish Frys. She catered many funeral services for the membership. Her favorite pastime was watching and feeding her birds in her backyard. Pauline loved playing “500 Rummy” cards, chinese checkers and working on puzzles with her family. She enjoyed going to BINGO, Duck Pin Bowling and socializing with her friends.

 

Friends received from 3-7 P.M. on Friday at the Baker-Harris Funeral Chapel, Conemaugh, where vigil for the deceased will be held. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday at the Church of the Transfiguration with the Rev. Father Robert C. Hall, Pastor. Committal will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family suggests contributions be directed to the Audubon National Society Bird Protection of Western PA; https://aswp.app.neoncrm.com/np/clients/aswp/donation.jsp  in memory of Pauline.
