Yvonne was a 1954 graduate of Adams Township High School. She and her husband owned and operated the Central Hotel (Horner’s Tavern) in Dunlo, PA for more than 40 years. She enjoyed meeting new customers and looked forward to seeing all the regulars. After she retired, she moved to Salix, PA and enjoyed gardening and playing with her grandsons, who affectionately gave her the nickname "Bukka." Yvonne loved to cook huge elaborate meals every holiday or birthday. She is especially known for her Christmas cookies and homemade pies. From blueberry to rhubarb to pumpkin, no store bought pie could compare. She always said her secret ingredient was the “L” word. We all thought it was love, but she would later confess it was really lard. Yvonne decided she had enough of the cold and snow in western Pennsylvania and went to live with her daughter and family in Florida. She enjoyed sitting in the sun on the patio, playing word searches and petting the family dog Frankie. Yvonne’s love and light will continue to shine bright in the hearts of all who knew her.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, April 9th, from 10 am until time of service at 11 am at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland. Interment will be at Dunmyer Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held later this summer in her memory. The family suggests contributions be directed to Dunlo American Legion Post #573 or a charity of one’s choice in memory of Yvonne.
