William C. Go, Jr., M.D.

GO- William C. Jr., M.D., 84, of Richland. It is with profound sadness that we announce his passing on April 3, 2024. He was born on July 2, 1939 in the Philippines, where he grew up and studied at the University of Santo Tomas to become a physician. He did a general surgery residency at the Clark US Air Force Base. He moved to the United States in 1971 and completed an orthopedic surgery residency at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in 1975. From there he moved to Grove City, PA before settling down in Johnstown, PA, which he has called home since 1977. Bill was preceded in death by his parents Guillermo and Maria Go, his daughter Geraldine and siblings Franklin, David, John, and Rosie. He is survived by his daughter Gladys, son-in-law Mark, grandchildren Abigail and Alexander, siblings Peter and Evelyn, sister-in-law Celia, and several nephews, nieces, great nephew, and great niece and many, many cousins. Bill worked tirelessly in the Johnstown, Windber, and Somerset areas for many years, getting to know many people and making a lot of friends. He treasured these friendships and loved to welcome friends to his home and backyard picnics. He spent years perfecting his version of “lechon” (roast pig), bringing a taste of the tropics to Johnstown. His motto was “there’s always room at the table for one more.”  Bill enjoyed being the life of the party. He loved to tell jokes and was always ready to listen to one. Bill was a loyal and generous friend to many and was always ready to lend a helping hand. He was generous to a fault and touched many lives, professionally and personally. Bill was proud to be an American and deeply loved his adopted homeland. He dreamed big and came to this country with the hopes of improving his family’s life.  He was a hard worker and grabbed any opportunities that came his way.  The United States is a land that embodies his “can do” spirit and a place that allowed him to pursue and live his piece of the American dream. We pray his soul find eternal rest at his journey’s end. Friends received 3 to 7 pm on Friday, April 12, at Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland and from 10 to 11 am time of Service Saturday, April 13, 2024 at the funeral home.  Fr. Douglas Blakelock and Deacon Marion Kush officiating.  Interment at Richland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to St. Matthew’s Anglican Church in Johnstown, PA, or The Windber Hospital.
