William G. Fisher

September 28, 1931 — May 1, 2022

FISHER– William Gerald, 90, formerly of Vinco, PA, passed away May 1, 2022. He died peacefully in his sleep from natural causes in the Washington D.C. apartment he lived in since 2014. Born September 28, 1931, in Patton, PA, he was the only child of the late Frances (McCoy) and Gerald (known as Jed) Fisher. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Patricia L. (Hoover) to whom he was married for 61 years, and his son, PA State Trooper, Gary W. Fisher.   Loving father to, and survived by, 3 children; Dr. Gerald L. (Susan) Fisher of Westmont, Karen S. (Colleen) Fisher of Washington, D.C., and Scott J. (Laurie) Fisher of State College. Adored by 6 grandchildren; Lauren (William) Willett, Garrett, Bryant, Ethan, Lea, and Amber Fisher and two great-grandsons Brayden and Beau Willett. Bill was a proud graduate of Patton High School (playing the clarinet in the Band) and a 1953 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy, where he proudly played the clarinet in the Varsity Marching Band.  After graduation, Bill worked as a pharmacist at the Ford Drug Store in Cumberland, MD.  Shortly thereafter, Bill was drafted into the US Army where he served for two years.  After the Army, he married Pat and went back to Cumberland, returning to the Johnstown area after his father died unexpectedly at 56.  He became the owner and pharmacist at Park Hill Rexall Drug Store (now Martella’s Pharmacy, Park Hill), where he practiced for nearly 40 years.  His work impacted countless individuals and for many years he coordinated the contributions of all local pharmacists to the United Way Fund. Bill enjoyed retirement, particularly spending time with Pat, which included much travelling, gardening, playing cards, and spending time at their pool.   Bill was a proud father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and a dear and loyal friend.  He will be forever in our hearts. Relatives and friends will be received on Friday, May 6, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, May 7, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland. A funeral mass will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 7, at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Geistown. Fr. David S. Peles, Pastor. Committal afterwards at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Patton, PA. with Fr. Ananias O.S.B. presiding. The family suggests that those interested should make contributions in the memory of Bill Fisher to the United Way or a charity of your choosing.  Online condolences may be posted to www.wharrisfuneralhome.com
