Matijevich, Verna Lou, 83, of Franklin Boro, passed away on September 17, 2011 at the Presbyterian Home. She was born on August 11, 1928 in Johnstown. Daughter of Harmon Sr. and Bertha (Stewart) Graham. Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Michael G. Matijevich Sr.; daughter, Zora “Pinky” Kaltenbaugh; siblings, Wade, Glenn, Harmon Jr., Leola Stiles, Ronald, Leroy and Jean Kosanovich. Survived by loving children, Mila, East Taylor Township, Michael Jr. married to the former Nancy Stiles, Richland, Dani wife of Thomas Schreyer, Franklin Borough; grandchildren, Luke Gerber married to the former Susan McNulty, Stacey wife of Brian Christner, Dutch Kaltenbaugh and fiancée Carla Bulava, Zoran married to the former Shanna Labarko, and Kayla and Travis Schreyer; great grandchildren, Brittany Christner and Zane Kaltenbaugh; son-in-law, Don Kaltenbaugh, Richland and numerous nieces and nephews. Verna was a graduate of Cambria Rowe Business College. She was employed as a Teacher’s Aide at the former Franklin and Conemaugh Schools. Later she was employed as an Office Manager at the YWCA, Johnstown. Verna was a member of St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church and a former member of St. Petka Serbian Orthodox Church; Sgt. Michael Strank Post #5107 V.F.W Ladies Auxiliary and member of the Franklin Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. She made many friends while living at the Atrium Manor and later at the Presbyterian Home. Verna enjoyed fishing, and riding mopeds with her husband and walking her dogs and spending time in the outdoors. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Verna will be sadly missed by all who knew her. At Verna’s request there will be no public viewing. Friends and relatives are invited to attend a short committal service at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Chapel on Wednesday at 10 A.M. with the Rev. Barron Deffenbaugh officiating. The family suggests contributions be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater PA Chapter, 1100 Liberty Avenue, Suite E-201, Pittsburgh, PA 15222 in memory of Verna.
