Theodore "Ted" Franklin Bischof
On May 7, 2025, Theodore "Ted" Franklin Bischof, a remarkable man of 91 years, peacefully passed away in Newport News, VA. Born on June 27, 1933, in Johnstown, PA, Ted lived a life dedicated to service, knowledge, and family. A proud veteran, Ted answered the call to serve his country with distinction. After enlisting in the U.S. Army as an Infantry Communications Specialist, he served from November 9, 1954, to November 8, 1956. His exemplary service was recognized with numerous decorations, including the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Ribbon, Combat Infantry Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, U.S.A.F. Accommodation Medal, Air & Space Outstanding Unit Award, and the Province Reconnaissance Unit Badge. These accolades speak volumes about his dedication and bravery. Following his military service, Ted continued his career with the Central Intelligence Agency as a Station Chief, where his commitment to national security further exemplified his patriotism and dedication. His pursuit of excellence extended into academia, where he earned two Master’s Degrees in Engineering from American University. Ted's sharp intellect and insatiable curiosity were evident in his passions. He was an avid reader, particularly fond of World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam War history, as well as biographies on famous world leaders and general world history. This deep engagement with history not only enriched his own life but also inspired those around him. In addition to his storied career and intellectual pursuits, Ted found joy in music, playing the trumpet in a band—a testament to his vibrant spirit and love for the arts. Ted was a devout member of St. Jerome Catholic Church, where his faith and values guided him throughout his life. His unwavering belief in kindness and compassion left a lasting impact on all who knew him. Ted was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Florence Elizabeth Trabold, his sister Shirley Bischof, and his parents, Theodore H. Bischof and Margaret Katherine Miller. He leaves behind a legacy of love and wisdom through his children, Robin Bennett Stanton, Annemarie Bowen, Theodore Franklin Bischof, Jr., and Lien Marie Crum. He was a cherished grandfather to sixteen grandchildren—Christopher, James, Andrea, Matthew, David, Daniel, Lydia, Fiona, John ("Jack"), Willy, Matthew, Will, Elizabeth, Adam, Heather, Tien, and Maddison ("Maddie")—and a great-grandfather to four great-grandchildren: Alexander, Isabelle, Cicilia, and John. Ted will be remembered not only for his professional accomplishments and service to his country but also for his profound impact as a loving family man and friend. His legacy of wisdom, strength, and compassion will endure in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. In the words of those who loved him, Ted was a beacon of courage, intellect, and kindness, a true inspiration to all.
Florence Elizabeth Bischof
Bischof – Florence Elizabeth, 93, Atlantic Beach, FL, went to be with the Lord on November 9, 2023 at Fleet Landing Retirement Community. Born on July 15, 1930 in Johnstown, Daughter of Arnold A. and Elizabeth F. (Clarke) Trabold. Preceded in death by parents, brothers, William, Robert, and Richard; and loving husband of 69 years, Theodore F., “Ted” Bischof and adopted children: Susan Stanton, married to Phil, Albany, OR; Annemarie Bowen, married to John, Sherborn, MA; Ted, Jr., married to Sammy, in North Highland; Lien Crum, married to Randall, Newport News, VA; and Derek, San Jose, CA. She had 16 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Florence played the clarinet in the Johnstown Catholic High School and graduated in 1948. She helped her father with the turkey family business. She earned a Secretarial Certificate and gained employment with the CIA. She traveled the world with Ted and children. She enjoyed summer vacations in Ocean City, NJ all her life. She was active in all the parishes she belonged to, and she supported all her five kids, as they were attending formal education. She was a devout Catholic and was a Pro-Lifer. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and crocheting. She loved baking her famous German kuchens and we loved eating them! She retired in Reston, VA. Ted took her to other countries before moving to Ponte Vedra, FL, where they both retired, then moved to Fleet Landing Retirement Community and she ended up in the Derfer building, where she died. A special thanks to all who made a personal impression on Florence, and to the medical team and Fleet Landing staff, who gave her tender loving care, while she was alive.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Friday, June 20, 2025 at Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, followed by Funeral Mass at 1:00 pm at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Johnstown, PA. Online condolences may be posted at www.wharrisfuneralhome.com.
