Shirley Mae Sabo
Sabo â Shirley Mae, 89, Johnstown, went to be with the Lord on August 21, 2020 at Conemaugh Medical Center. Born on February 7, 1931 in Johnstown, daughter of Stephen and Elizabeth (Tirpak) Kovach. Preceded in death by her husband, Eugene âMikeâ Sabo; daughter, Eugenia M. Sabo, great grandsons, Judah and Baylor, and nine brothers and sisters. She is survived by her loving sons, W. Kevin (Jennifer), Richland and Kenneth M. (Julie), Boswell; grandchildren, Melinda (Shane) Coughlin, Jacqueline Moss, Alyssabeth Sabo, Michael Sabo, Lauren Sabo, and Cameron Sabo; great grandchildren, Landon, Samuel, Hope, Grace, Mae, Elliana, and Jack; several nieces and nephews, including special niece and best friend, Gloria Jean Harrison, and brother-in-law, William D. (JoAnn) Sabo. Shirley was a majorette and graduate of Ferndale Area High School. She worked at Troy Laundry and Mercy Hospital as a Nurseâs Aide for many years. Shirley was voted Mrs. Johnstown in the 1960âs, she was extremely proud of her Hungarian heritage and as a native Johnstowner she loved the area for its ethnic diversity. Shirley was a long-term member and advocate of the former Hungarian Reformed Church, Cambria City. She loved her country and her president. Shirley was a devoted wife, mother and proud grandmother. She left a broken body and lept into the arms of Jesus. While we will be sad for ourselves, we must rejoice for Shirley, for her pain is over and she entered into true eternity of happiness. She will be missed. At Shirleyâs request, there will be no public viewing or service. Private entombment will be at Grandview Mausoleum. The family is being served by the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland. Online condolences may be posted to www.wharrisfuneralhome.com.
Shirl was a good lady and we have many special memories of good times shared over the years with her and my mom, at family gatherings. May she rest in peace as she reunites with loved ones in heaven. Our deepest condolences to Kevin, Ken and their families. We will keep you all in our thoughts and prayers, during this difficult time.
