Shirt – Ronald K., 93, Windber, went to be with the Lord on July 8, 2026 at Windber Hospice. Born on November 4, 1932 in Windber, son of John and Elva Mae (Durst) Shirt. Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lois J. (Wadsworth) Shirt; son, R. Mark Shirt; grandchildren, Sara Anne Shirt, and Josh Shirt; brother, Rennie Shirt; in-laws, Glenn Pugh, William Bence, Robert Ulasky, Louis McGough, and Richard Ulasky.

He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Martha R. (Wilson) Shirt; sons, D. Timothy (Debra) Shirt, VA, and Patrick J. (Lisa) Shirt, Windber; grandchildren, Denille (Terry) Williams, Megan (Scott) McEntee, Travis (Maria) Shirt, Jonathan Shirt, Ian (Allison) Shirt, Emily (Julian) Gallina, and Isaac (Gabriella) Shirt; great grandchildren, Brennan Leary, John Shirt, Ronald A. Shirt; sisters, Evelyn Pugh, Janice Bence, Joyce Ulasky, Nancy McGough, Connie Ulasky, and Anita (John) Lucas; step sons, Russell (Brenda) Gerney, Mark (Janis) Gerney, and Scott (Dawna) Gerney; step grandchildren, Liam, Abigail, Ryan (Erin), Evan (Haelie), Nathan (Michaela) Gerney, and Kayla (Richie) Marson; step great grandchildren, Nolan, Declan, Laurel, Violet, and Sylvia Gerney, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ronald was a 1951 graduate of Richland High School. He later graduated from IUP where he earned a Bachelors Degree in Education. Ronald retired after 34 years of service as a history teacher at Windber School District and Forest Hills School District. He was a US Army Veteran serving during the Korean War. Ronald enjoyed carpentry, woodworking, and playing pinochle at the Windber Senior Center. More than anything, he loved his family deeply and was always concerned for their wellbeing. Ronald’s family would like to thank the entire staff at Windber Hospice for the loving care he received.

At Ronald’s request, there will be no public viewing or service. Private inurnment will be at South Fork Cemetery with military rites conducted by Menoher Post #155 VFW Ritual Team. The family is being served by the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland. His family suggests contributions be directed to Windber Hospice, 600 Somerset Avenue, Windber, PA 15963 in memory of Ronald. Online condolences may be posted to www.wharrisfuneralhome.com.
