Richard Campitell

August 14, 1938 — October 14, 2018

CAMPITELL---Richard, 80, Windber, went to be with our Lord Jesus on October 14, 2018, at home, after a very long battle with cancer. Born August 14, 1938, in Windber, son of the late Steve and Adaline (Chicarell) Campitell. Preceded in death by sisters, Edith Glacken and Mary Sklodowski; brother, Paul; and in-laws, Stanley and Tillie Otolinsky, of Franklin Boro. Survived by loving wife, Patricia E. (Otolinsky) Campitell, whom he married on October 24, 1964; son, Richard Stephen Campitell and wife, Jill (Berkebile) and their children, Adalyna Marie and Stephen Campitell;  son, Christopher Patrick Campitell and wife, Allison (Webb) and their children, Benjamin David and Luke Richard Campitell. Brother of Janet Murtha, Rose Haley and Bernice Myers. Also survived by sister-in-law, Dolores (Otolinsky) Modic. Richard was truly loved by all who knew him. As a young boy, he worked at Harry Leone’s Store, Damico Cleaners and Swank Hardware. He was a 1956 graduate of Windber High School and a US Army veteran who served as a Chaplain’s assistant for Fr. Downes at Ft. Wolters, Mineral Well, TX. Upon discharge, he became employed at U.S. Steel as a cost analyst in the accounting department for 22 years until the plant closed. He went on to work for Windber Hospital as a manager of courier services for 25 years. Richard was very proud of his Italian Abruzzi heritage and was very devoted to his faith. He was very, very proud of his sons, Rick and Chris for their life accomplishments, but most of all he cherished his grandchildren. Richard loved new cars, shiny shoes and a nice lawn. We will always remember our Italian feasts on Christmas Eve. They were the best and family always came first. Special thanks to our wonderful nurse, Kelly Boyer, our angel, and nurses from Johnstown’s Hillman Cancer Center, Peggy, Sherry, Lydia and Jo; and Dr. Mulcahy and Dr. Rogerson. Member of St. Anthony of Padua Church, Windber, where Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Rev. Lawrence Lacovic officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, where Vigil service will be held at 6 p.m. Entombment, St. Anthony’s Mausoleum. Military graveside rites accorded by Windber VFW Post #4795 Ritual team. Online condolences may be posted at www.wharrisfuneralhome.com.
