Guestbook

My father, Jack Zimmerman, used to delight in introducing my Uncle Bob as his "younger brother," because in their very large family, Bob was the only one younger than him. I was blessed to be able to introduce him to my family several years ago after an absence of decades when Gina brought him to visit me in Maryland. With his passing, a generation of Zimmermans is gone forever, the men and women who saw us through World War II, the Korean War, and lived through social and technological change that took them from radio to black and white, then color TV, to the moon, to the Internet and beyond. We were lucky to have had them as our parents and our guides. I know that Uncle Bob is finally with his beloved Genevieve, his brothers and sisters in heaven and I rejoice that they are united in spirit again. Love and condolences to his family, Susan Zimmerman and family, daughter of his brother Jack.

Expression of Sympathy Mar 15 2019 12:00 AM

I met Bob in 2005 at Arbutus, where his wife was getting care. I got to know them both really well during her stay there, as I worked as an Activities Coordinator. Since then, I adopted them as my grandparents. Zimmy & Genevieve exuberated nothing but love. Such good people. Zimmy taught me sooooo many things... how to drive a tractor, chop & stack wood, the first 5 numbers in German, the entire How Great thou Art song, and how to lose at Uno - repetatively (hard to admit)! He introduced me to Dave Ramsey and taught me how to save money. He generiously paid me to handle household jobs. He taught me how to work hard. He taught me how to live simply and to enjoy the simple things! He was a true blessing in my life. I never had grandparents. He was the closest thing to a grandparent that I ever really had - even my parents loved him. When my mother passed in 2012, he provided the eulogy, last minute. I have so many wonderful memories of Zimmy. Words cannot express how deeply saddened I am with this loss. Due to travel arrangements, I am unable to attend services but my heart is there. My deepest sympathies to Bobs wonderful family, and his daughter Ann, who I got to know the most. Silver lining, Bob is finally back with Gen, I know he missed her deeply. Rest well my dear friend Zimmy, I love you!!
