She was a loving mother that gave everything and more of herself to raise a respectable family that she was very proud of. In many instances it was under difficult circumstances and not without hardship. Mom always kept the family machine running, and it never skipped a beat. She taught us the importance of family, taught us to be respectful of others, and instilled many other important values in us. She supported us in all of our endeavors but kept us grounded and on the right path when our behavior or ideas might have gotten a little too skewed.” At Reta’s request, there will be no public viewing. A private Memorial Service will be held at the convenience of the family at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland. Private inurnment will be at Grandview Cemetery. Dear John and family, I was so sorry to learn this morning of your mother's passing. What a wonderful, loving woman she must have been. How fortunate you are to have had such a pillar in your lives and what a beautiful tribute you have given her. Sincere condolences.

Heaven gained an Angel.

When we were growing up (even when we were young adults), it seemed that almost every time I stopped down at your home, it smelled like something delicious was cooking. If I remember correctly, on those times when your mom knew that she wouldn't be home at supper time, she would prepare a home cooked meal for you and leave instructions on how long to cook it so that all you had to do was heat it and eat it. Even if I had just eaten, the smell of her meals could make me hungry. In fact, I am positive that I called her once (when I was an adult), requesting her Hungarian Goulash recipe (of course, she helped me).

She even found time to help me... John, if you remember, when I first started SCCA racing, your mom found time to sew velcro onto an old seatbelt that I had to make me a "torso wrap" (I still have it, I just don't need to use it anymore).

I met you guys, John & Rob, when I started to work at Barron's Greenhouse; not too long before your dad had died (I think we probably in grades 7 - 10). While I never really thought about it growing up, as an adult I realize what a challenge raising five children had to be as a single parent. Yet somehow, your entire home, the yard, flower beds, and the inside of your house always was well kept. And I can only imagine how much it must have cost to feed the three of you super human sized boys/men (Pam and Angie wouldn't have made a dent in your food supply) yet you all appeared to be cared for and well fed.

Even more important, while the natural desire to test the limits of acceptable behaviors while growing up, friends, and social life in general; would often "conspire" to lead the five of you (obviously some more than others) down the wrong path, deep down inside of all of you, your mom must have instilled the ability to determine right from wrong, resulting in all of you growing up to be productive and responsible adults. I am certain that she was and still is proud of all of her babies.

I am sure that everyone who knew your mom will miss her in some way, may you and all of us who knew her find solace in knowing that she still lives on in all of you.

God blessed you with an amazing mother, may he continue to bless you now that he has her watching over you from heaven.

You are all in our prayers.
