Raymond E. Wolfhope

October 27, 1941 — August 15, 2022

Wolfhope - Raymond, E., 80, South Fork, went home to Jesus on August 15, 2022. Ray was born October 27, 1941, in Johnstown, son of the late Vernon H. and Twila (Emieigh) Wolfhope. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Larry A. and Vernon D., and sister, Donna Percosky; also, great-grandson, Tyler Scott Wolfhope.

 

In 1959, Ray married Carole L. (Layman), who survives. There are four daughters; Renee, wife of John D. Gentile, Westerly, RI.; Judy, wife of Doug Nagy, Salix; Trudy, wife of Mike McDevitt, St. Michael, and Michelle, wife of Butch Kostan, Portage. Ten Grandchildren will miss their Grandpa; Amanda Gentile and Morgan McEwen both of Kennebunkport, ME, Daniel Gentile, Pawcatuck, CT; Justin (Kristy) McKnight, Windber; Shawn (Missy) McKnight, Windber; Jackie (Roman) Geisel, Beaverdale; Ryan Wolfhope, Somerset; Derek (Brie) McDevitt, Connellsville; Jared (Kayla) Kostan, South Fork; Jason (Anastasia) Kostan, Portage; and Jamie Kostan, Portage. Great-grandchildren are Hannah McKnight, Eddie Geisel, Chase and Lakin McKnight, Riley Wolfhope, Gavin and Gabe Kostan, Anna and Jack Kostan and several step-great-grandchildren.

 

Ray drove a truck for many years. He retired from Galliker Dairy after 25 years working as a warehouseman in the freezer. His favorite hobby was fishing, and his reputation for catching pan fish is far and wide! He taught and fished with his grandchildren and many special friends. They enjoyed Ray’s famous fish fries and he fed the “Multitudes!”  Ray enjoyed yardwork, loved to garden, and did a lot of their home canning himself. Ray was a faithful member of Salix Bethel United Methodist Church, where he served many years as a trustee, usher, and counter. He was a beloved member of the Goodwill Bible Sunday School Class.

 

At Ray’s request, there will be no public viewing. Celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Salix Bethel United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Donald Poole and Rev. Jon Gulnac officiating. Private inurnment will be at Dunmyer Cemetery, Salix. The family suggests contributions be directed to Salix Bethel United Methodist Church, 1021 Forest Hills Dr, Salix, PA 15952 in memory of Ray. Online condolences may be posted to www.wharrisfuneralhome.com. Cremation by Laurel Highlands Crematory at Harris Funeral Home.
