Mathis – Paul E. “Jake”, 47, Richland, passed away after a valiant battle with brain cancer on December 6, 2019 at Conemaugh Medical Center. Born on August 31, 1972 in Johnstown, son of Lawrence J. Jr. and Denise L. (Smay) Mathis. Preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Dr. Robert Mrkich; maternal grandparents, Clifford and Lois Smay; and paternal grandparents, Lawrence and Martha Mathis, and his beloved, Hunsa. He is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Robin A. (Mrkich) Mathis; children, Caitlin A. and Jacob P. Mathis, both of Richland; mother-in-law, Anita M. (Yanoschak) Mrkich, Richland; twin sister, Paula A. Mathis, South Fork; brother, Lawrence J. Mathis III, South Fork; sister-in-law, Shannon L. Mrkich and her husband, Michael Confer, Ardmore, PA; brother-in-law, Robert Mrkich Jr., Richland; nieces, Alyssa A. Weaver and her fiancé, Michael Long, Normandie A. and Ava M. Confer; nephews, Tyler and Josh Mathis; his beloved dog, Chewy; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Jake was a 1990 graduate of Greater Johnstown Vo-Tech. He was formerly employed at Saylor Bros. Hardware and currently employed at Phillips Machine Service, Beckley, WV. Jake was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, Geistown. He was also a member of Solomon Run Firemen’s Club as well as many other local clubs. Jake enjoyed hunting, fishing, dancing and was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penn State. He loved socializing with all his friends, playing the air guitar, but especially loved spending time with his family. “Seriously, why do you gotta be a ….”  Friends will be received from 3 p.m. until time of funeral service at 7 p.m. on Monday at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland. Private inurnment will be held at a later date. The family suggests contributions be directed to the family in C/O The friends of Jake Mathis, 1st Summit Bank, 125 Donald Lane, Johnstown, PA 15904.
