Hershberger, Nyle Millard, 86, formerly of Richland Township, died November 7, 2017, in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he lived for the past 27 months to be close to immediate family. Nyle was born May 15, 1931, to Alfred C. Hershberger and Evelyn (Frye) Hershberger.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Nancy (twin sister), George Edward, Glenn, Don and Kathryn. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 66 years, Ruth Jean (Roberts), children Michael (Debbie Layton) of Cincinnati, OH; and Diane (Rodger Kube) of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren Nichole Fisher, Columbus, OH; Michelle Lipps, Cincinnati, OH; and Mikka Kube, Manama, Bahrain; and 7 great grandchildren. Nyle graduated from Richland High School in 1949. He held undergraduate and graduate degrees in education from Penn State University. He taught at Somerset, Ferndale and Bishop McCourt High Schools and at the Johnstown Christian School. Nyle was the principal of Richland Senior High School and he worked in the District’s Administrative Office. He coached football, basketball, golf and track throughout his teaching years. Nyle was a man of deep faith which he expressed in both words and deeds. He was a member of the Belmont United Methodist Church since 1953 where he served in many capacities including teaching Sunday School for more than 35 years. He was active in the Western Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church and on the national level serving as a Delegate to General and Jurisdictional Conferences and on a review board for the Cokesbury Publishing House. Together with Ruth Jean, Nyle made significant commitments in support of Habitat for Humanity (Cambria County), Shoes for Orphaned Souls, Angels of East Africa Children’s Orphanage, and Operation Christmas Child. He served as a Trustee on the Richland Cemetery Board and as a speaker and board member for PCAP (formerly PA Council on Alcohol Problems). Also, was an avid vintage camera and antique collector. Friends received 4:00 – 8:00 PM Monday Nov. 13, at Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland and Tuesday Nov. 14, from 10:00 AM to time of service at 11:00 AM at Belmont United Methodist Church. Interment at Richland Cemetery.  The family suggests donations to Belmont United Methodist Church, 107 Coldren St. Johnstown, PA 15904 in memory of Nyle.
