Mickey was an Army veteran who attended UPJ and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. He worked at JARI and later he became the Director of Development and Public Affairs for UPJ where he retired as the Vice-President of Institutional Advancement for the university. Mickey loved staying home with his wife Rae. He was a Pirate’s baseball fan and always had a pack of gum in his pocket. He enjoyed a big bowl of chocolate ice cream every night. He was a devoted husband to Rae and dedicated his life selflessly to caring for her. Their marriage to one another was an amazing example of what true love looks like. Mickey also showed his love to his children and grandchildren. He was always willing to do whatever he could to help the ones he loved. Mickey’s family member’s hearts are full of precious memories with him. Memories of Mickey showing up to countless sporting events, having the entire family over for the holidays, enduring surprise parties, attending graduations, teaching them valuable life lessons and supporting them through every milestone in life. Mickey will be dearly missed by his family. We hope that he is enjoying a giant scoop of chocolate ice cream in heaven. At Mickey’s request, there will be no viewing or visitation. Funeral Mass will be held at the convenience of the family. Committal, Richland Cemetery. The family is being served by Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland. As a new professional, straight out of grad school, as well as a transplant to Pennsylvania, I was welcomed to the UPJ community by Mickey, back in 1980. He was always so kind and upbeat, no matter the situation. He played a big role in making UPJ such a great place to work or study. My condolences to his family and friends.

Im not a fan of public speaking, so Im very thankful and proud of the grandkids for sharing some of their wonderful memories of their Pa yesterday. My dad was a great fatherthe things he taught us are too many to mention! But he was a super grandpa. One of those where was this man when I was growing up Grandpasice cream for breakfast, sips of his coffee, and I swear, Patrick had a surprise present behind Pas back DAILY when hed come home for his lunch break! There was nothing he wouldnt do for his kids and, especially, his grandkids! It was so sweet to hear the kids loved him as much as he loved them!
But no one loved Dad the way my mom did. Even when she couldnt take care of herself anymore, she still worried more about taking care of him. And he took care of her, until it was no longer possible. The grandkids wrote the obituary, and Im so thankful they saw Ma and Pas marriage as an amazing example of what true love looks like. Dad and I would still see her physically at her window, but he had to say goodbye to the long life that they shared together a long time ago. And it broke his heart. Although Id do anything for my mom to have her memory back, its a blessing that she didnt have to say goodbye to him yesterday, like we did.
Even as a grown woman with my own children, my Dad still called me Kid. I will miss that.
No more suffering, Dad, rest in peace.
Your Kid
