Merritt Dwight Buzzard

Buzzard, Merritt Dwight, 94, Manns Choice, formerly of Johnstown. Went to join his Lord, his wife and other family members on Jan. 9, 2011, at his retirement cottage where he has spent the last 40 years. Born Sept. 10, 1916, in Johnstown. Son of the late William Conway and Lillian Mae (Tantlinger) Buzzard. Also preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, the former Effie L. (Morris); brothers, Franklin, William, Jr., Donald, Thomas; and sisters, Gwenie Kearns, Rebecca Budash, Lillian Lewis, June Kordell and Sue Fleck; 2 grandchildren.  Survived by daughters, Janet, widow of William Umbach; and Beverly, wife of Larry Schrock, both of Manns Choice; 5 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and 4 great great grandchildren.  Brother of Josephine, wife of Reed May; Esther, wife of Roy Lint; Yvonne “Mickie” Good; and George Speicher, all of the Johnstown area. Also his constant companion, “Gage”. Retired from Johnstown Plant, U.S. Steel Corp. as a machine operator with 42 years’ service. Dwight was a member of Chestnut Ridge Independent Fellowship Church and volunteered at Manns Choice –Harrison Twp. Community Center Food Bank & Thrift Shop. Friends received from 2-8 pm Thursday at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, where service will be held at 11 am Friday. Revs. Greg Sinclair, Nathan Elliott and Daniel Oldham, officiating. Interment at Richland Cemetery. On-line condolences may be left at www.wharrisfuneralhome.com
