Schatz, Melburn R., 89, of Richland. Died Mar 16, 2018, at Conemaugh Medical Center. Born July 21, 1928, in Johnstown. Son of the late John W. and Sara M. (Sell) Schatz. Survived by wife of 67 years, Mary E. (Fochtman) Schatz; daughter, Melanie (Chuck) Hankinson; grandchildren, Kelly (Justin) Pyle; Travis (Jenna Speicher) Hankinson; great grandchildren, Ava and Vera. Brother of Dolores Hillegas, Lawrence (Ginny) and John Schatz. Also survived by nieces and nephews. 1947 graduate of Johnstown High School. Army Veteran of Korean War. Retired electrician of Bethlehem Steel. Member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. Past board member of Highland Sewer & Water Authority. Mel enjoyed playing golf. Friends received 2-4 and 6- 8 PM Monday at Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, and from 10 AM to time of service at 11 AM Tuesday at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. Pastor Scott Klimke, officiating. Entombment at Richland Cemetery Mausoleum. Family suggests donations to St. Jude’s Children’s’ Hospital in memory of Mel.
