Marylyn G. Harrison

HARRISON---Marylyn G. (Alwine), 83, Johnstown, died April 4, 2020. Born April 25,1936 in Johnstown, PA. Preceded in death by husband Vernon C. Harrison, parents Biran and Pauline (Fassett) Alwine, siblings Robert “Buddy” (Pearl) Alwine, Evelyn (Frank) Tesauro, and Doris (George) Balster. Survived by sons Mark (Linda) of Gibsonia, PA and David of Johnstown, granddaughter, Haley (fiance Joseph Tremmel) of Boston, MA, and sister Margaret “Peggy” (Oden) Harrison of Davidsville. Also survived by numerous brother and sister-in-laws and many nieces and nephews. Marylyn was a graduate of Westmont High School. She married Vernon on April 6, 1957. She retired after many years of service from Verizon (formerly GTE) and was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she served in various positions and sang in the choir. Marylyn approached every aspect of her life with gusto and was the ultimate daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She was the life of the party and loved being on the dance floor with her husband Vernon. She was at her best when she was serving others, often preparing meals, baking for friends or entertaining in her home. Being “Nanny” to her only grandchild, Haley however was her most treasured role. Marylyn’s personality and laugh were contagious, and her unconditional love and caring spirit were an inspiration to all who knew her. There will be no visitation. Private interment Benshoff Hill Cemetery. Please celebrate Marylyn’s life by remembering the joy she brought to those around her and the impact she left on so many. Donations can be made to Heartland Hospice, Foster Plaza 9, 750 Holiday Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15220. The family is being served by the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland. Online condolences may be posted at www.wharrisfuneralhome.com.

Dear Harrison/Alwine families, So sorry for your loss. I met Marilyn at Curves and had such a wonderful time talking and laughing about life. We had many enjoyable days celebrating other members birthdays and going out to breakfast or lunch. My husband knew her through her work at the telephone company. He truly appreciated how she handled any difficulty that came up for her customers. The world has lost a beautiful lady. Sending hugs and prayers your way.
With our sympathy, Alicia and Foster Garrison

What a wonderful woman; we are so sorry for your loss. We will miss her visits to the shop and catching up on family news. One story I'd like to share: Riek's was having an open house and our new credit card processing (which went through our phone line) was not working properly. Marylyn happened to be there and asked what was wrong. I explained and she said "I'll take care of it". She made one phone call, and to our amazement and thankfulness, the problem was resolved in a matter of minutes!!! I don't know who or what she did or said, but that girl had clout. We will miss her and will keep all of you in our prayers. With deepest sympathy, Marisa and Annette at Riek's

To the family and friends of Marylyn, You will be in my thoughts and prayers that GOD can grant you the peace you need to get through this grieving time. I only met Marylyn one time but my brother in law worked with her daily at Verizon and talked so highly of her always. Please take joy in all the memories she had made for you and know you will be with her someday in the kingdom of GOD. Prayers! Marianne Locher

Mark and Harrison Family, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Growing up, your mother and father were so good to me. Her bubbly personality and laughter were contagious. She was a wonderful person and treated me like a son. I lost my mom a little over a week ago and I know the feelings of sadness you are going through. She was a wonderful loving and caring mom who will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family through this difficult time.

Mark, Linda, & Haley, Please accept our deepest condolences for the loss of your mom and grandmother. 'Nanny' was truly one in a million. I remember that her and 'Pappy' always had smiles on their faces, bringing joy and laughter to everyone around them. But my very favorite memories have to be any time the music was turned up and a (makeshift) dance floor was nearby, they would 'tear it up' better than folks half their age ~ and many would stop to just watch them! They were that good! They were a joy and will missed by many. I am glad she is at peace now and is with her beloved Vernon. You guys are in our thoughts and prayers. Rudy and Pam
