Shortt - Margaret “Patty”, of Johnstown, died January 13, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones at home. She was born December 28, 1944, in Johnstown. Daughter of Joseph and Mary (Pavlich) Maurer. She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Peter, Joseph, Martin, and Ronald; sisters, Agnes Maurer, Katherine Alt, and Helen Pizzino. She is survived by her husband, and love of her life for 31 years, Thomas Cowher; her children, Tracey (Joseph) Eckenrod, Johnstown, Jolene (Paul) Dolan, North Carolina, Stephen Shortt, Johnstown, and stepdaughter, Stacy (Chris) Rhodes, Windber; grandchildren, Evan and Ethan Slonac, and step granddaughter Katelin Rhodes (Joseph Hunter). Patty also had numerous nieces and nephews. Patty was a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church. She graduated from Greater Johnstown High School in 1962 and retired from Penelec in 2010. Patty was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She had a big heart and would go above and beyond for anyone. She also kept you on your toes with her no-nonsense personality. She was an avid baker who made the best sandies rogards. She loved to cook for her family, and her grandsons Evan and Ethan would beg her to make homemade spaghetti noodles when they would visit. There will be a private family viewing at Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland on Tuesday, January 16. Private burial will be at Somerset Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Patty’s name to your local chapter of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) or American Legion.
