Margaret J. Bubenko

d. June 5, 2019

Bubenko, Margaret J.  “Peg”, 91 of Elton, was surrounded by her loving family at Windber Woods when she left this world to be with her Lord on June 5.  Peg was born April 4, 1928 in Windber to James and Isabelle Sharpe.  She is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, James P. Bubenko and her beloved son, Jack.  Peg grew up in Windber with her best friend, Louise.  They graduated from Windber High School in 1945 and together they planned their many high school reunions.  After high school, she worked as a secretary for Eureka Stores and later as a bookkeeper for Shaffer Motors in Windber and Bedford.  Peg was a lifelong member of the former First Presbyterian Church of Windber and loved her church family.  She served as Elder, Deacon, and Sunday School teacher.  Peg was the Treasurer of the Women’s Association for many years, a representative for the United Churches of Windber for over 30 years, and served as liason for the Presbyterian Women of the Redstone Presbytery.  Outside of her church, she was an avid sports fan and spent many hours cheering for the Pirates, Penguins and Steelers.  Peg also enjoyed traveling to see her grandsons participate in sports.  Peg leaves behind her brother, James Sharpe and wife Wilma of Windber, her sister-in-law, also named ‘Margaret Bubenko’ – the two Peg’s spent countless afternoon hours challenging each other at domino’s.  Her beloved children, Janet Witkosky of San Francisco, CA; Thomas Bubenko of Townsend, DE; Kathy Flanagan (Les) of Charlotte, NC. Her treasured grandchildren, Ron Witkosky (Karen) of Pittsburgh, PA; Justin Bubenko (Nycole), Amy Matthews (Jordan) both of Smyrna, DE; Kevin Flanagan, Davis WV; and Sean Flanagan (Taylor) of Charlotte, NC; and, two great grandchildren, Oliver and Harper Bubenko. Family suggests expressions of sympathy can be made to the Asera Care foundation. The family also wishes to thank the dedicated staff of Windber Woods and Asera Hospice Care who all showed so much compassion during Peg’s journey.  Friends received from 11 am to time of service at 1 pm Monday at Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland. Rev. Cynthia Cadenhead, officiating. Interment at Richland Cemetery. (Online condolences may be posted to www.wharrisfuneralhome.com }
