Lucille A. "Lou" Baserman

October 14, 1927 — September 13, 2022

BASERMAN---Lucille A. “Lou,” 94, Johnstown, died peacefully on September 13, 2022, one month and a day before her 95th birthday. Preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, James W. Baserman; parents, Stephen R. “Dick” and Ann (Johanna) (Fretzel) Cenney; sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Bernard Sutt; her beloved aunt, Elma Lou Matus, and other Brownstown and Cambria City family members. Lou was the bereaved mother of the late Sgt. Mark J. Baserman. Survived by loving son, Paul W. Baserman of New York and devoted daughter-in-law, Rebecca Lynn (Yeager) Baserman of Johnstown. Lou was a faithful parishioner of St. Benedict Catholic Church in Geistown for over 60 years. Early in her marriage and after her children arrived, she was a nurturing den mother to numerous Cub Scouts and many of them became life-long friends. Lou cherished her memories of growing up on Blaine Street in the Morrellville section of Johnstown. Her many friends from those days and after can attest to Lou’s great good humor and loyalty. For decades, she was a supporter of the YWCA and achieved many medals in swimming, of which she was justly proud. Besides her children and extended family of well-loved nieces, nephews and godsons, Lou was dedicated to her pet dogs and at least one cat, and several rabbits, including a wild cottontail. Her love of animals and support of humane societies is a credit to her kind, and donations and support to this favorite cause will be greatly appreciated as an honor to her name. The family of Lucille Baserman extends heartfelt thanks to her dedicated care providers in recent years, especially Amy Marsh, Paul Bomboy, Scott Hanak, Eugene Neely; and to her loving neighbors and friends, especially Darlene, David and Jessica, Willie, Matt, Andrea and Alberta. “Rest in peace, daughter of God.” Family and friends are invited to a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Monday, September 19, 2022 at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Geistown, Fr. David S. Peles, Pastor. Committal, Grandview Cemetery. The family is being served by Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland. Online condolences may be posted at www.wharrisfuneralhome.com.
