Lois A. Birtle

Birtle – Lois A., 87, Richland Township, went to be with the Lord on December 19, 2018 at Windber Medical Center. Born on August 24, 1931 in Johnstown, daughter of Harold P. and Agnes E. (Giffin) Trent. Preceded in death by parents; husband, Robert F., “Bob” Birtle; brother, Robert Trent and sister, Druscilla  (Trent) Jones. She is survived by her loving children, Jeanne A., (Jeffrey M.) Bracken, Erie, PA, Bruce R. (Laura L. Mills), South Fork, PA, Sharon K., (Dennis J.) Hunt, Lake City, PA, and Douglas S. (Sandy C. Schoon), Richland Township; grandchildren, Brett J. and Rebecca A. Birtle, Emily A. and Levi J. Hunt; siblings, Richard L. (Donna) Trent and Harriet E. Kyler, both of Richland; sister-in-law, Romayne Trent, Richland; several nieces, nephews, and many close friends, especially Travis. Lois was a 1949 graduate of Richland High School. She was a life member of the Maple Grove Church of the Brethren and its Ladies Auxiliary. Lois also volunteered at the Solomon Run Fire Hall Election Board for 32 years, and was a member of the Solomon Run Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, cooking, baking and crafting. Lois loved spending time with her entire family, friends and neighbors, especially at picnics and dinners. Her family would like to thank Windber Hospital for their compassionate care. Friends will be received from 3-7 p.m. on Friday and from 11 a.m. until time of service at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, with the Rev. Ruby F. Mader officiating. Entombment will be at Richland Cemetery Mausoleum. The family suggests contributions be directed to the Humane Society of Cambria County, 743 Galleria Drive Extension, Johnstown, PA 15904 or to a charity of one’s choice in memory of Lois.
