Miller - Lawrence F., 91, of Hopewell, PA, passed away on January 17, 2017, at his residence. He was born on December 30, 1925 in Langdondale, PA, Son of the late Fred and Marie (Eichelberger) Miller. He was raised by his late grandparents, Abe and Mary (McCue) Eichelberger. In addition to his parents and grandparents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Patricia “Sissy” Miller, and brother, Charles “Buddy” Miller. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, to whom he was united in marriage on April 7, 1962, Zelda (Harding) Miller. In addition to his wife, he is survived by children, Lawrence “Larry” and Kenneth (Crystal), all of Saxton, PA, John (Wanda), Robertsdale, PA, Justine (Stan) Heath, Saxton, PA, and Benhue (Shelly), Jefferson, OH; half-sister, Cindy (Jim) Donaldson, Six Mile Run, PA; grandchildren, Laura Munro, Lock Haven, PA, Brenton Miller, Woodbury, PA, Jonathan, Stephen, and Dylan Miller, all of Saxton, PA, Regina Miller, Saxton, PA, Seth Miller, Six Mile Run, PA, Ashton Miller, Saxton, PA, Ryan Miller, Robertsdale, PA, Kristin Harshbarger, Robertsdale, PA, Chassity Miller, Jefferson, OH, and Kylie Nelson, Tucson, AZ; great-grandchildren, Archer and Henry Miller, Duncan Munro, Makenna Bleacher, Kole Miller, Keegan Miller, Kash Lake, Kale, Kinley and Kenzie Nelson; step grandchildren, Nathan Detwiler, Robert and Destiny Zelanko, Kendra Bollinger, Patrick Heath, Brandi and Amber Mullen, and numerous nieces nephews. Lawrence served in the United States Navy from 1943 – 1946 and was discharged before the age of 21. He served in the Southwest Pacific with the 7th Fleet on an Attack Cargo (AKA) ship throughout the Pacific area. Lawrence also served as a submarine and PT Boat repairman and worked at three different supply depots. Lawrence started in the mines when he was fourteen working with his grandfather, Abe Eichelberger, who had a small truck mine along Sandy Run. He owned and operated several coal mines for over twenty years and trucked coal to the power plant and breaker. After his coalmining career, he was a heavy equipment operator in the construction field until his retirement at age 62. Lawrence was the only living chartered member of the Hopewell V.F.W Post #8634. He spent his remaining years enjoying being at home with his family and little buddy Peppy. At Lawrence’s request, there will be no public viewing. A private Memorial Service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family at Six Mile Run American Legion, Post #556 with Military Rites conducted by Broad Top Honor Guard.
