Meyers - Kenneth Clyde, Jr., 88, of Richland Twp. (formerly of Dale Borough), passed away peacefully at Conemaugh Hospital on May 20, 2026 with his wife of 70 years and family by his side. Ken was born on October 3, 1937 in Johnstown. He is the son of the late Kenneth Clyde Meyers, Sr. and Jennie Viola (Fisher) Meyers.
Ken is preceded in death by his parents and infant brother, James Irwin Meyers; in-laws, Edward and Gustie (Fyock) Botteicher; daughters-in-law, Donna Meyers (Kenneth, III) and Sandra Meyers (William); grandson Steven Meyers, Jr., and granddaughter, Nikki Meyers.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mildred E. “Sis” (Botteicher) Meyers; sons, Kenneth III, William, Steven (Nancy), Wesley (Linda), 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren with the 23rd arriving in October. Also survived by brother, Russell Meyers of Arizona.
Ken attended Dale High School and met the love of his life, Mildred Botteicher, in 1953 at a 10th grade dance. Following graduation in 1955, Ken enlisted in the United States Air Force and married Mildred on Christmas Eve of that same year. He proudly served his country for four years and was stationed at Miyako Jima Air Station on the island of Okinawa, Japan. He obtained the rank of Airman 1st Class and followed up with four years in the Reserves.
Following his discharge, Ken was employed by Ward Trucking and entered the Pennsylvania State Police Academy in 1972. He began his service as an officer for the Dale Borough Police Department and later served as Police Chief until 1977. Ken then transferred to the Ferndale Police Department and again worked his way through the ranks to become Police Chief from 1988 until 2002. He was also employed as a part time security guard for the Johnstown Galleria Mall from 1992 until 2009.
In addition, Ken served as a Chief Officer of Dale Borough Volunteer Fire Department circa 1976 and was an honorary member of the Ferndale Volunteer Fire Department. Both Ken and Mildred regularly attended Beulah United Methodist Church, where he served on the Pastor Parish Council.
Family and friends will be received from 3-7 p.m. on Tuesday and from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, with the Rev. Charles Shaffer officiating. Interment will be at Richland Cemetery with military rites conducted by Menoher Post #155 VFW Ritual Team. The family suggests contributions be directed to a charity of one’s choice in memory of Ken. Online condolences may be posted to www.wharrisfuneralhome.com.
