Thompson – John E. “Jack,” 78, Stonycreek Township, went to be with the Lord on September 1, 2023 at Memorial Medical Center. Born on August 26, 1945 in Johnstown, son of James E. and Irene B. (Carnes) Thompson. Preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Shirley Roberts, Hazel Brown, Ruth Brown, Phyllis Dishong, Joyce Crawford, Marlene Phillips, Judith Aiello and brother, Roy. He is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Sarah Jane “Janie” (Keyser) Thompson; step sons, James M. Kaseler, married to the former Mary Krestar, Johnstown and Joseph M. Kaseler, married to the former Sarah Gabriel, Chagrin Falls, OH; grandchildren, Lexi, Zach, Sydney and Jordan Kaseler, Amanda (Cody) Sliko, Marley and Maddie Gabriel; great-grandchildren, Gracie, Baylee, Audrey and Cora; sisters, Romayne Ressler, Wanda Vavrek, both of Johnstown; brothers, Carlisle “Sonny,” Elizabeth City, NC, Charles “Chuck” (Shirley), Punta Gorda, FL, James, Lancaster, PA, Carl, Johnstown; numerous nephews and nieces, including special niece and nephew, Marina Sumrada, and Matt Sumrada. Jack was a 1964 graduate of Johnstown High School. He was a US Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam War. Jack retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad after 30 years of service as a welder. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. Jack enjoyed playing softball, watching football on TV, a good hot cup of coffee, and most of all spending time with his family and grandkids. Friends will be received from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Wednesday September 6, 2023 at Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, followed by Funeral Service at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 600 Ash St., Johnstown, with the Rev. Toby R. Holland officiating. Entombment will be at Richland Cemetery Mausoleum with military rites conducted by Menoher Post #155 VFW Ritual Team. The family suggests contributions be directed to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 600 Ash Street, Johnstown, PA 15902 or a charity of your choice in memory of Jack.
