DONNELLY, John J., “Jack” – Passed away at home on June 18, 2020. Born in Newark, NJ on July 30, 1938 to John and Grace Donnelly. Preceded in death by parents, in-laws Nick and June Occhino, sister-in-law Josephine Occhino and son-in law Chuck Sturniolo. Survived by wife Debbie, daughters Jaclyn Donnelly and Valora Sturniolo, grandson Nicholas Sturniolo, brother-in-laws Nick, Rick and Michael Occhino, special niece Jenine Morga, numerous other nieces and nephews and his canine companions McKenna, Savanna and Belle. Jack honorably served his country in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1962. Immediately upon honorable discharge Jack embarked on a 50 year career in the defense industry which brought his family to Johnstown in 1993 when he accepted the position as President of the then DRS Laurel Technologies. During Jack’s tenure the company grew from less than 50 employees to more than 1000 and under his guidance constructed the building currently in use by the John P Murtha Airport. Upon his retirement Jack continued as a consultant for various defense companies. All who knew Jack know that his passion was his orchard where he had hundreds of fruit trees, blueberry bushes and vegetable gardens which he gladly shared with friends and neighbors and for many years the fruits of Jack’s labor were donated to the St. Vincent DePaul Food Kitchen. During his years in Pennsylvania Jack was involved in many organizations and received numerous awards and was always available to help someone in need. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Friends received 2-4 and 6-8 pm Sunday at Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 am Monday at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Geistown. Fr. David S. Peles, Pastor. Committal with military rites by Marine Corps League at Richland Cemetery Mausoleum.
