Yanko – Irene E., 95, of East Taylor Township, went to be with the Lord on October 26, 2020. Born on December 11, 1924 in Lilly, PA, daughter of John and Julia A. (Hooder) Solomon. Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Peter; siblings, John, Mary Imler-Lann, Julia Delaney, Anna Bellantoni, Irma Kinney, Helen Panzer, Francis and Verna Scanlan. She is survived by her loving children, Peter T., married to the former Sharon Mastervich, Johnstown, Beverly I. Poole, Johnstown, Linda L., wife of Michael Calpin, East Taylor Township, Maryann J. Yanko, East Taylor Township, Audrey I. Yanko, East Taylor Township, George S., married to the former Anna Amenti, East Taylor Township, and Thomas F. Yanko, East Taylor Township; grandchildren, Mary Kay (Shawn) Persing, Charlotte, NC, Diane Wentz, East Taylor Township, Jennifer L. Yanko, Kent, OH, Gregory P. (Megan) Yanko, Green Springs Cove, FL., Erica (Patrick) Callahan, Pittsburgh, Lisa Leckey, Richland Township, Michael (Celena) Calpin, Bon Air, Melanie (Michael) Gilbert, Chicago, IL, Jayme (Josh) Migyanka, East Taylor Township, Carley Yanko, Pittsburgh, Jeremy Yanko, Richland Township, Abbi Yanko, Johnstown, and Emily Lowery, East Conemaugh; great grandchildren, Dylan and Hayley Wentz, Sabrina Mitchell, Brody Persing, Grace Bond, Charlotte and Ian Callahan, Jayden and Summer Leckey, Amelia and Shane Calpin, Maddox and Benson Migyanka, Declan Gilbert, and baby girl Gilbert, due in December; great-great grandchildren, Oliver and Aubrey Brady; sisters-in-law, Betty Fetcik, and Gail Yanko, and numerous nieces and nephews. Irene was a Technical Sergeant serving in the Women’s Army Corps. during WWII. She was an active member of Park Hill American Legion Post #970; East Taylor Volunteer Fire Company, Ladies Auxiliary, and a delegate to the Cambria County Ladies Auxiliary. Irene was a volunteer for the St. Vincent DePaul Society and at the former Lee Hospital for numerous years. She was an avid Steeler and Pirate fan, as well as a Conemaugh Valley Football Booster, but especially loved to travel with her late husband and children. Irene was a member of the Church of the Transfiguration, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister, Lector, CCD Instructor, and a Stephen Minister. She loved spending time with her entire family, and enjoyed when they came for Sunday dinners and holidays. Friends will be received from 3-7 p.m. on Friday at the Baker-Harris Funeral Chapel, Conemaugh, where Vigil for the deceased will be held. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Church of the Transfiguration, Fr. Robert C. Hall. Committal will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery with military rites conducted by Conemaugh Valley Det. #287 Marine Corps League Ritual Team. The family suggests contributions be directed to Proclaim TV Ministry, P.O. Box 807, Johnstown, PA 15907-0807 in memory of Irene. On line condolences may be posted to www.wharrisfuneralhome.com.
