Howard "Pine" Scott Jr.

SCOTT---Howard Jr. "Pine," 76, Richland. It is with great sadness for the family of Howard "Pine" Scott Jr. to announce his unexpected passing on Saturday, October 14, 2023 due to complications after a fall at his home on Sunday, October 8, 2023.  Howard was born on January 21, 1947 to Howard Scott Sr. and Alberta (Henry) Scott.  He is preceded in death by parents and brother, Larry.  Survived by wife Rebecca (Dow) Scott; children Ryan, Brooklyn, NY; Dionne, Johnstown; and Christy, Atlanta, GA; siblings, Geraldine (Alfred) Williams, Portage, MI; Albert (Quaretta), Johnstown; Alfred (Sandra), Johnstown; Rosalind, Delaware, OH; Sovonnia (James) Coleman, Johnstown; Vanessa, Havre De Grace, MD; Robin, Fort Washington, MD; and Yvette Carr, Johnstown;  brother-in-law Neal (Sheila) Dow, Canonsburg, PA and sister-in-law Patty (Tom) Hajzus, Murrells Inlet, SC. Howard graduated from East Conemaugh High School, attended Cisco Junior College, Cisco, TX and earned a BA in History from St. Edwards University, San Antonio, TX.  He retired from the coal mines after 20 plus years of service. He was a standout basketball player in his early years, transitioned to tennis and then bicycling on the Ghost Town Trail.  He was a social member of the Richland American Legion Post #849 and member of the former YMCA Men's Health Club.  Howard developed many close and meaningful friendships from early childhood, college days, work and social life.  He would spend hours on the phone talking to friends and family.  He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend.  He will be truly missed by everyone whose lives he touched.  The family is honoring Howard's wishes to be cremated with no funeral service.  Donations can be made in Howard's memory to the Lupus Foundation of America or Rails-to-Trails Conservancy.
