Helen R. Shawley

Shawley, Helen R., “Gert”, 91, Johnstown. Died May 23, 2011, at the Presbyterian Home. Born Dec. 12, 1919, in Hollidaysburg, Pa. Daughter of the late Roy E. and Bertha M. (Enyerat) Shawley. Also preceded in death by brothers, Chester E. “Joe” (Della), Elmer W., and Maurice E. “Ed”; and sister, Alma L. “Muzz”Burkhart. Sister in law of Donald Burkhart, and Dorothy Joan Shawley, both of Johnstown and Mary “Pat” Shawley of Berlin, Pa. Also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and special niece and caregiver, Denise Layman, Richland. Formerly employed as a seamstress and baker in the Johnstown area. Gert enjoyed crafts, needlepoint, crocheting and playing the organ. She had a sincere faith in God and was a member of the Arbutus Church of the Brethren. Friends received from 3 to 7 pm Tuesday at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, where Funeral Service will be held at 11 am Wednesday. Rev. Barron Deffenbaugh, officiating.
