Helen Mae King

KING—Helen Mae (Potter), 100, formerly of Oakland, went to rest in the arms of Jesus on September 27, 2023. Born March 5, 1923, in Johnstown, daughter of Earl and Emma (Schmidt) Potter. Preceded in death by parents; husband of 31 years, Leonard A. King, who passed away in July of 1977; brothers and sisters, Erma Heider, Alice George, Marie McLaughlin, Eugene Potter and Robert Potter; son-in-law, David Howard. Survived by daughters, Victoria Howard, Riverside and Rochelle Strong and husband, William, Noblesville, IN; 6 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Sister of Evelyn Bloom and husband, Ken, Richland. Helen grew up in Dale Borough and went to the Dale School from which she graduated. She was a member of the Lee Hospital Auxiliary and Secretary of the Dale Ladies Club. At 92 years old, she became a resident of St. Jude’s Haven where she lived for almost 8 years. She told everyone there, her name was “Helen Mae King Potter from Lemon Street in Dale.” She turned 100 years old in March and she had a marvelous celebration of her life. Helen was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She is now rejoicing with family and friends who have gone before her. Member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, Geistown. Her family would like to thank the staff at St. Jude’s for the wonderful care and friendships that have been made. They would also like to thank Windber Hospice for their kind and compassionate care. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until time of Funeral Service at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 30, 2023 at Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, with Fr. Antony Sudherson officiating. Committal, Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, family suggests memorial contributions to St. Jude’s Haven Personal Care Home, 1072 Mt.
