BLACK---Hannelore (Glötzner), 90, of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Paul and Erna Glötzner, passed away on April 8, 2026. Born on April 2, 1936, in Ilmenau, Germany, she lived a life of extraordinary courage and resilience. Hannelore's early years were shaped by post-war Germany. She made the difficult journey from East Germany to West Germany before setting her sights on a new life across the Atlantic. It was in West Germany that she met and married the love of her life, Walter D. Black, known to all who loved him as "Joe." The couple welcomed their first two children, Bill and Judy, in Germany before moving to the United States in 1959, where they would build the rest of their lives together. For many years, Hannelore worked in shoe sales and took great pride in her work. She had a habit of surprising her loved ones with a new pair of shoes or socks, a small but telling gesture of her generosity and thoughtfulness. Those who knew Hannelore knew a woman of remarkable character. She was strong-willed and deeply intelligent, with an independence she guarded fiercely, determined to live on her own terms for as long as she was able. Her home was always immaculate, a reflection of the pride and care she put into everything she did. She was always impeccably dressed and presented herself with a quiet elegance that never wavered. Nothing brought her greater joy than gathering her family around her table. She was a devoted and tireless hostess, and the holidays were her domain. In a beautiful testament to the woman she remained until the very end, just three days before her passing, she hosted Easter dinner at her home and cooked for her family, one final cherished gift to those she loved. Hannelore is survived by her children: Bill Black (Joanne), Judy Scott, and Joe Black (Michelle); her brother Hartmut Glötzner of Cologne, Germany; and her son-in-law James W. Berringer. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Nathan Black (Nicole), son of Bill; Gabriela Scott and Danielle Scott Grados, daughters of Judy; James J. Berringer (Elizabeth) and Matthew Berringer (Moriah), sons of Elaine; Allyson Imeni (Erfan), Matthew Howard (Jessica) and Bryan Howard (Scott), daughter and sons of Joe; and Nicole Black, Bobby Black, and Hennah Black, children of Robert. She is also survived by many beloved great-grandchildren. She is further survived by numerous nieces and nephews in Germany. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter "Joe" Black; her children Elaine and Robert; her son-in-law Tom Scott; and her siblings Marianne, Inge, Gerhardt, and Hella. Memorial Service will be held on Noon, Monday April 13, 2026 at Greater Johnstown Christian Fellowship with Pastor Ed Berringer, officiating. The family is being served by Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, cremation by Laurel Highlands Crematory. Online condolences may be posted at www.wharrisfuneralhome.com.
