Thomas, Gerald C., “Jerry”, 84, of Belmont, passed away on July 6, 2017, at Amber Springs at Laurelwood Care Center. Born on April 25, 1933, in Johnstown. Son of the late Harold L. and Dorothy (Koontz)Thomas. He is also preceded in death by wife, Shelby Jean Haberkorn, granddaughter, Sara Kinback, and brother, Ronald. He is survived by daughters; Debora D. Thomas, Johnstown; Robin Giardina, Salix, Joy Ashurst, East Taylor Twp, and Stacey Horrell, Pittsburgh, PA; grandchildren, Guy, Nicole, Ashely, and China; 2 great grandchildren; and “Buddy the cat”. Jerry retired with 33 years of service from Bethlehem Steel Corp., where he was an Inspector in the Franklin Mills. He served in the Army in Germany during the Korean War with the 628th Tank Battalion, 28th Division as a Staff Sgt. Jerry loved animals, art, was an avid reader and had a great sense of humor. At Jerry’s request, there will be no public viewing. Private service will be held at the convenience of the family at Baker-Harris Funeral Chapel, Conemaugh with Rev. John H. Weaver, officiating. Private entombment at Richland cemetery Mausoleum. The family suggests contributions be directed to Humane Society of Cambria County, 743 Galleria Drive Ext., Johnstown, PA 15904 in memory of Gerald.
