George "Chris" Pristas, Jr.

Pristas Jr., George, “Chris”, 92, of Nelson Loughner Plaza, Johnstown, formerly of East Conemaugh, passed away on May 7, 2011 at his residence in the loving care of his son, Robert. He was born on March 23, 1919, in Johnstown. Son of George Sr. and Mary (Panulin) Pristas. Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Julia (Sheftic) Pristas, who passed away at the age of 91 on October 30, 2009; son, Brian George, who passed away at the age of 25 in 1982; sisters, Ann Collier and Mary Schecter and brothers, Charles, Andrew and Rudolph. He is survived by a loving son, Robert J. Pristas, East Conemaugh; sisters, Margaret wife of Michael Pelo, East Conemaugh, Irene Maki, Long Beach, CA, Barabara Simkins, Lakewood, CA and numerous nieces, nephews; great nieces and nephews and many special friends. George was a US Army Veteran serving during WW II. He retired after 35 years of service as a Crane Director from Bethlehem Steel. George was a member of Holy Trinity Byzantine Catholic Church; East Conemaugh Volunteer Fire Company; life member of the former Carpatho-Russian Club; former member of the Senior Citizens Activity Center in Johnstown and attended Senior Life for the last several years. He enjoyed bowling, watching and listening to sports, but loved anything to do with fishing. At the request of George there will be no public visitation, however family and friends are invited to attend Divine Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 AM on Tuesday at Holy Trinity Byzantine Catholic Church, Father Robert K. Yetsko, T.O.R. Committal will be at Grandview Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by Menoher Post #155, VFW. The family suggests contributions be directed to Holy Trinity Byzantine Catholic Church, 217 Fourth Street, Conemaugh, PA 15909 in memory of George.
