Evelyn M. Szpet

Szpet (Henry), Evelyn M, 87, formerly of Tire Hill. Died Aug. 11, 2018 at Amber Hills, Ebensburg. Born Mar. 2, 1931, in Indiana County. Daughter of the late Milton G. and Kathryn M. (Nicewonger) Waltermire. Also preceded in death by first husband, Harold V. Henry and second husband, Peter Szpet; brothers, William and Carl Waltermire. Survived by children; Marie (Gary) Taylor, Friendly, WV; Vern (Debra) Henry, Johnstown; Carol (Robert, Sr,) Felix, Sidman; and Aggie Henry, Los Angeles, CA. Evelyn was very proud to tell others about her 12 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren. Survived by brothers, Clayton (Sue) Waltermire and Tom (Arlene) Waltermire; and nieces and nephews. While raising their four children, Evelyn and Harold were members of Maple Grove Church of the Brethren, then later, became members of Johnstown Alliance Church. Evelyn approached the work in her life with passion and care.  She loved her family and always joyfully prepared delicious meals for all to enjoy.  She grew bountiful gardens with harvest which she canned and shared with her family, friends, and neighbors.  She was even granted a gardening spot after she moved to the nursing home.  Her dogs were always well loved and quite spoiled.  Her house was filled and surrounded by beautiful flowers, and her bird feeders were always ready for winged visitors.  Evelyn was a careful seamstress and her embroidery had the appearance of perfection on both sides.  She spent many hours at the East Hills Senior Center enjoying her friends over games of darts.  Every task Evelyn completed was done with enthusiasm and perseverance. The family would like to express thanks to the caregivers at the Amber Hills facility.  A special thanks to Barb and Marilyn, Evelyn’s good friends who were faithful in sending her cards during her time there. Friends received 4-8 PM on Tuesday, August 14, 2018, at Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, where service will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, August 15, 2018. Rev. Carl F.
