Edward Bender

Bender – Edward, 95, Stonycreek Township, went to be with the Lord on May 23, 2025 at The Villa Crest. Born on September 18, 1929 in Homer City, PA, son of Michael Sr. and Mary (Rebovich) Bender. Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty J. (Mekulsia); grandson, Alexander B. Sylvester; siblings, Catherine Timura, John, Joseph, Mary Castallani, Michael Jr., and Nicholas. He is survived by his loving children, Edward M. Sr. (Linda) York, PA, Pamela J. Bender (Marc W. Sylvester), Charlotte, NC, and Lynn (Paul) Galloway, Frederick, MD; grandchildren, Kiley (Dan), Edward Jr. (fiancé Leah Aidif), Nicholas, Samuel, and Margaret, and great-granddaughter, Wren Olivia Smith. Ed was a graduate of Homer Center High School and later graduated from the University of Pittsburgh. He retired from Bethlehem Steel as a Mechanical Engineer and Supervisor of the Maintenance Department for 35 years. Ed was a US Air Force Veteran serving during the Korean War. He was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, K of C Council #8244, 4th Degree; Windber Country Club “Duffers”; Richland American Legion Post #849, and the Korean War Vets. Edward loved his family dearly, and especially loved annual family vacations at the Outer Banks. Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 30, 2025 at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, where Vigil for the deceased will be held. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 31, 2025 at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Fr. David S. Peles, Pastor. Entombment will be at Richland Mausoleum with military rites conducted by Menoher Post #155 VFW Ritual Team..
