Dr. George F. Kresak

KRESAK—Dr. George F., 77, passed away May 12, 2011 at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center.  Born Nov. 2, 1933, in Johnstown, son of the late George J. and Anna M. (Kmett) Kresak.  Survived by loving wife Alberta “Bunny” (Pudliner) Kresak, children: Michelle, wife of Joseph Smith Jr. of Yorktown, VA, George and longtime partner Christina Kiaer, of Chicago, Mark married to the former Jennifer Lichty, of Johnstown, Glenn, married to Dina Osterbloom, of Sarver, Kristine, married to Randy Cortese, of Elton and Melissa married to Alan Forish of Thomas Mills, and these precious grandchildren: Jessica, Jennifer, Joseph III, Zora, Jonas, Tristin, Dylan, Ava, Joshua, and Ally: sisters Betty (Kresak) Krents, widow of Richard Krents, and Janet (Kresak) Patcher, widow of John P. Patcher and nieces and nephews.  George attended Johnstown Catholic High School, University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown (Moxham campus), and Loyola Medical School in Chicago.  Before college, George worked briefly at Bethlehem Steel and then served 4 years in the Air Force during the Korean War as a military policeman. He completed his internship and residency at Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital.  Upon completion, George established a long-time family practice located in Roxbury, serving generations of local families.  He served as the president of the medical staff at Conemaugh and was involved in the residency program for over 40 years, retaining active membership in the American Academy of Family Physicians. George was the medical director of Hiram G. Andrews Center for many years.  The team physician for the Johnstown Jets during the filming of “Slapshot”, George enjoyed stitching up the Johnstown Jets at their home games during the days of the “Hanson Brothers”.  A life-long Pittsburgh sports enthusiast and avid golfer, George and his wife Bunny enjoyed Saturday night dinners at Rizzo’s in Windber.  George will be sadly missed by loving wife, family, friends, colleagues, and patients.   The family will be receiving friends on Sunday, from 12-4 and 6-8 at Harris Funeral Home in Richland, where services will be held on Monday, at 10 am.  Entombment, Richland Cemetery Mausoleum.  The family suggests donations be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, River Walk Corp.
