Donald A. Burkhart

Burkhart, Donald A. 90, of Belmont. Died Oct. 1, 2011, at McCullough House. Born May 9, 1921, in Johnstown. Son of the late Willard W. “Poppa “and Nellie E “Mum” (Glass) Burkhart. Preceded in death by wife, Alma L. “Muzz” Shawley; and brothers, Marlin and Densel Burkhart; and sisters, Kathleen Wagner and Mary Lou Nichols. Survived by son, Robert M., married to former Mary Ellen Lyons, Canonsburg; and grandchildren; Chad E. Burkhart, Darren Joyce, Erika Joyce and Kyla Joyce. Brother of June Gillarmod, Florida and sisters in law, Mary “Pat” Shawley , Berlin; and Dorothy Joan Shawley, Johnstown.  Also numerous nieces and nephews and many loving supportive neighbors and friends. 1940 graduate of Johnstown Catholic High School. Retired from Latrobe Steel Co.  World War II Army Air Force Veteran. Friends received 2-4 and 6-8 pm Wednesday at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, where service will be held at 10 am Thursday. Rev. Barron Deffenbaugh, officiating. Interment at Richland Cemetery.  Family suggests donations to the Regional Hospice at Windber or Arbutus Church of the Brethren in memory of Donald A. Burkhart.
