Cardellino-Deborah K., “Debbie”, (Mayer), 69, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2026 after a devastating battle with Alzheimer’s disease at St. Jude’s Haven. Born on February 22, 1956 in Johnstown, PA. Daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Kinney) Mayer. Also preceded in death by loving husband, Dr. Thomas James, of almost 40 years.
Survived by loving daughters, Jackie (Christopher) Reagan of Orlando, FL and Dr. Christie Cardellino (Ryan Gindlesperger) of Johnstown, step daughters Terri (Susan Labadie) Cardellino, of Thousand Oaks, CA; Natalie (John) Livella, of Davidsville; Patty (Scott) Beveridge, of Johnstown; Lori Cardellino, of Ventura, CA; grandchildren Riley, Madilyn, Ellie, and Jack Gindlesperger; brother Rick (Cindy) Mayer of West Mifflin, PA; nephews Nick and Andy Mayer and numerous cousins, extended family, and beloved friends.
Debbie was a 1974 graduate of Bishop McCort High School where she was a cheerleader. She graduated from Conemaugh School of Nursing in 1977. She continued on to receive her Bachelor of Nursing at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. Debbie worked as a registered nurse at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center and later at her husband’s cardiology practice. She enjoyed nursing and always provided the best care to her patients. Debbie loved her family above all else and cherished time spent together. She enjoyed entertaining and opening her home to family and friends. Debbie was always the life of the party. A lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers fan, Debbie greatly enjoyed the many Steelers bus trips as well as the close friendships that she made over the years at Indian Lake.
She was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church in Geistown. She was a loving wife, mother, and friend to all. Debbie loved deeply, gave generously, and expected little in return. Anyone who knew Debbie knew that she loved her animals. Her daughters and grandchildren were her pride and joy. She never missed an activity and was always their biggest cheerleader.
She will be terribly missed and forever loved. A public viewing will be held at Harris Funeral Home 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, on Wednesday, January 28, from 3-7 p.m. where vigil service will be held. Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Benedict Church. Fr. David S. Peles, Pastor. Committal at Grandview Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Debbie’s memory. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caring staff of Conemaugh Hospital, AseraCare Hospice, and St. Jude’s Haven.
