SMITH---David B., 80, Richland, passed away on September 4, 2025 at home. Born July 11, 1945, in Windber, son of Bernard and Irene (Snyder) Smith. Preceded in death by parents. Survived by brother, Dr. Barry Smith and wife, Janie, Montgomery, TX; niece and nephews, Dr. Brenda Smith (Tim Clark), Guam; Christopher Smith (Heather), OK; and Eric Smith (Raushan), Kazakhstan and great-nieces and nephews, Tristan, Jordan, Davis, Camryn and Alan; cousins, Kristine Olsen, David Snyder, Sue Nohrden and Nancy Mackenzie. David was a graduate of IUP with a bachelor’s degree in teaching. He was an exchange student in Spain for 6 months before his IUP graduation. He taught Spanish for over 35 years at Richland High School and for 2 years at Windber Area High School. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Windber, where he sang in the choir and was a member of the worship and music committees. He was also a member of the NEA and the PSEA. According to his friend, Mike Bodolosky, David was a proud Penn State and Big 10 sports fan and he loved the finer things in life. He was also an avid supporter of the arts and he enjoyed traveling the world, having new experiences, along with fine dining, good wine and spirits. He lived life to the fullest and inspired others to do the same. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until time of Funeral Service at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 11, 2025 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Windber, with Vicar Penny Koontz officiating. Private entombment, Richland Cemetery Mausoleum. The family would like to thank Patricia Balogh and Mike Bodolosky for their ongoing care and support.
