David J. Hersh, 76, Richland, passed away on December 10, 2025, at home with his wife by his side. Born October 5, 1949, son of the late Joseph and Jean (Bush) Hersh. Preceded in death by half-brothers, Carl and Robert and half-sister, Jean. Survived by loving wife, Donna (Sanborn) beloved brother, Thomas (Cecelia), Davidsville and several nieces and nephews. David was a 1967 graduate of Johnstown High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and completed the Infantry Officer Course at Fort Benning, Georgia. He would go on to serve as an Airborne Ranger, Green Beret and in Special Forces. He was a decorated Vietnam Veteran having earned The Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Silver Star, Vietnam Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. David served as a platoon sergeant for 15 months with Troop C., 3rd Armored Squadron, 17th Air Cavalry in South Vietnam. He was wounded when his platoon came under intense automatic weapons fire on a combat operation in Cambodia. After medical evacuation, he received treatment at Valley Forge Army Hospital in Phoenixville, PA. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown and retired as a Supervisor of Transportation for Conemaugh & Blacklick Railroad. We offer many thanks to all of the incredible employees at the Johnstown VA and the Richland Davita Dialysis Center. They were extremely caring and loving and David considered them part of his family. We would also like to thank Conemaugh Regional Hospice for their special care and kindness in his final days. The family is being served by Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland.
