David R. Azar

Azar – David R., 61, Richland Township, died on September 9, 2018 at Windber
Hospice Palliative Care Unit. Born on January 6, 1957, son of the late Stanley
Azar and the late Anne (Zappernich) Azar.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Charlene (Cummins) Azar, Richland
Township; son, Benjamin Azar, Richland Township; daughter, Heidi (Matthew)
McGuire, Johnstown; granddaughters Samantha and Jessica McGuire. David
was the youngest of six children; brothers George (Kay) Azar; James (Rita) Azar;
sisters Janet (the late John) Rok; Kathy (Don) McMillan; Mary (David) Thomas,
and many nieces and nephews.
David graduated in 1974 from the Greater Johnstown Area Vocational
Technical School. Post high school he garnered an admirable and rare work
ethic, which he carried with him throughout thirty-three years employed as a
diesel mechanic by the Cambria County Transit Authority.
Mr. Azar was a kind and generous man with a quick wit; defined being a ‘good
neighbor,’ always ready to step up and lend a hand. David was the essence of a
devoted husband, father, brother, son and most of all, friend. He will be missed
every day.
At David’s request, there will be no public viewing or service. The family is
being served by the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland.
Contributions may be directed to Windber Hospice in memory of David. Online
condolences are invited at www.harrisfuneralhome.com.

David was my little brother. He never missed a chance to remind us he was special, he was the "baby" of the family. We had the best time growing up. He always took more than his share of blame when we got in trouble. Saturday nights we would make a pizza and huddle on our couch, watching Chiller Theater, scared to death. David never forgot to call me on my birthday and gave the best bear hugs. He was hard working, funny and could fix anything. Our family is devastated at his passing, but I promised him we would be okay, or as David would always say "okey dokey". Love you so much little brother. Know you're so happy to be with Mom and Dad again. Your memory will be eternal, safe in the arms of our Heavenly Father. All my love till we're together again your sister Mary.
