Daniel W. Grove, Sr.

Grove, Daniel W. Sr., 92, of East Conemaugh Borough, passed away on October 5, 2011 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born on March 21, 1919 in East Conemaugh. Son of John G. and Mary B. (Studt) Grove. Preceded in death by parents; sisters, Vera Guyan, Ruth Howie, and Nancy Grove; brothers, Harry and Glenn; brothers-in-law, Andy Guyan, Earl Merritt and Donald Howie. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Florence I. (Stralko) Grove, East Conemaugh; son, Daniel W. Jr. and his partner, Kevin “Mickey” McMahon, East Taylor Township; granddaughters, Amy J. wife of Jeffrey Wallet, Mundys Corner, Jessica I. wife of David Hemming, Meyersdale and Megan C. wife of Brian Dumm, Ebensburg; great-grandchildren, Julia and Jalen Stephens, Emma Wallet and Madeline Dumm; sister, Florence Merritt, Richland Township; sisters-in-law, Betty Grove, East Conemaugh and Betty M. Grove, East Taylor Township; numerous nieces, nephews and his buddy, “Kitty”. Daniel was a 1937 graduate of East Conemaugh High School. He was a WW II US Navy Veteran serving on the USS Bennington in the Pacific Theatre. Daniel retired from Bethlehem Steel after 35 years of service in the boiler shop. He was a life time member of the Conemaugh Fire Company for over 70 years and served as Fire Chief for over 30 years; Volunteer Firemen’s Association of Cambria County and Vicinity; Firemen’s Association of the State of Pennsylvania and the Conemaugh-Franklin American Legion Post #633. Daniel enjoyed sitting on his porch and loved spending time with his entire family, especially his great grandchildren. Friends will be received from 2-8 P.M. on Friday and from 10 A.M. until time of service at 11 A.M. on Saturday at the Baker-Harris Funeral Chapel, Conemaugh. There will be a Conemaugh Fire Company service at 7 P.M. on Friday at the funeral home. Internment will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with military rites conducted by Menoher Post #155 V.F.W.
