SMITH---Clyde Gordon, 90, Richland, passed away on April 8, 2026. Born January 7, 1936, in Dunlo, son of Matthew L. and Georgina (Danel) Smith. Preceded in death by parents, brother, Richard Lyle Smith and sister-in-law, Constance (Nancollas) Smith. Survived by wife, Nancy Carol (Chokran) and two sons, Dr. James Smith , married to Sandra Verdavoir and Michael Jay Smith, married to Maria Isabella. Clyde was an honest man and a worthy role model to his sons. He graduated from Adams Township High School in 1953 and then the University of Pittsburgh in 1957 as a metallurgical engineer. He was employed at U.S. Steel, Johnstown Works from 1957 to 1984. He was one of the founders of Johnstown Corp. in 1984 and Allegheny Recovery Corp. and the PA Foundry Association. Retiring in 1992, he acted as a consultant for Hempfield Foundry and Consolidated Foundry until 1994. Clyde loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting and cross-country skiing. He was an outstanding father to his two sons and loved to travel. He and Carol covered every state and several foreign destinations. He had a dry sense of humor and was well respected by his neighbors and peers. He could do just about anything and loved to share his talents with just about anyone who needed help. The world was a better place because of his love for friends, family and neighbors. God grant that I may fish until my dying day and when it is my last cast, I pray that it lands in the Lord’s net. Private funeral arrangements by Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland. Online condolences may be posted at www.wharrisfuneralhome.com.
