Catherine M. Oleksa

OLEKSA – Catherine Mae, (Kitty) ,87, of East Taylor Township. Went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 23, 2017. She passed away peacefully in her sleep at home. Catherine is the daughter of the late Michael Husla and Anna (Konitsky) Krawczyk.   She is also preceded in death by her sister Irene (Husla) Henderson and brother John Husla and step-father Joseph Krawczyk. Catherine was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Survived by her loving and caring husband of 68 years George and the following children; George M., married to Robin (Piechnik), Gary S., married to Nancy (Diamond), David A., and Kevin J., married to Christine (Williams). Grandchildren; Tracy married to Wayne Nardecchia, Melinda married to Carlos D. Perez, Brian married to Kimberly (Kaiser), Anthony, Nicholas and Michael; and numerous great grandchildren. Also sister- in- law, Frances Husla; and nieces and nephews.  Catherine is a former employee of Bestform, Glosser Brothers and Penn Traffic where she worked until the ’77 flood closed the Penn Traffic downtown store.  After the flood she became full time housewife, mother and grandmother. A judge of elections in East Taylor Twp. She was an avid bingo player and enjoyed her time playing bingo, pinochle. She was member of the Greek Catholic Union and St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church. Catherine was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend who will be deeply missed. Friends received 6-8 PM Thursday and 2-4 and 6-8 PM Friday at Baker-Harris Funeral Chapel, Conemaugh, where Parastas will be held Friday evening at 6 PM. Brief prayers at 9:15 AM Saturday at the funeral chapel followed by Funeral Liturgy at 10 AM at St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Power St. Msgr. Raymond Balta, officiating.
